Powerful Promotion Sends Delta Air Lines Wellness Challenge Registration and Results Soaring

Delta Airlines’ Employee Health and Wellbeing team, responsible for engaging a benefit-eligible population of 85,000 across 304 locations in 52 countries, wanted to boost registration and engagement for its fan-favorite Walktober wellness challenge. Since 2014 they partnered with Health Enhancement Systems to deliver scalable, camaraderie-based campaigns and sought a stronger, global promotional strategy for the 2018 season.

Working with Health Enhancement Systems, Delta deployed HES campaign content and timelines, a Wellness Champion toolkit, multi-channel promotion (email, intranet, posters, SkyHub), 500 trained champions and on-site incentives to drive sign-ups. The 2018 Walktober recorded 1.5 billion steps, 122,526 autumn leaf icons, 563 teams (32 perfect scores) and delivered a 67% increase in registration year-over-year, with team participation rising to 61% and 56% of participants using a Solemate.
