Custom Wellness Challenge Keeps University of Texas System Active

The University of Texas System partnered with Health Enhancement Systems in 2016 to tackle declining engagement with traditional wellness tools across its 15 institutions (~172,000 benefit-eligible people). Seeking a fresher, more engaging approach, the benefits team worked with HES to design a custom campaign—Keep UT System Active—that would re-energize participants and encourage sustained healthy behaviors.

Health Enhancement Systems delivered a customized, institution-focused campaign with coordinator training, registration materials, demos, and on-campus promotion that boosted engagement and measurable outcomes: 57% program completion (a 9% increase from the prior campaign), 1.1 billion total steps, 2.5 million exercise minutes, at least 847,440 eight-ounce glasses of water consumed, and 961,744 hours of sleep logged. Team-based features drove stronger results—872 teams (a 45% increase), 75% team completion (31% higher than solo participants), and teams averaged 24 days of logging vs. 15 for individuals—contributing to an overall 12% rise in program participation. Health Enhancement Systems’ custom approach helped keep UT System employees active and coming back for future campaigns.
