Improving Healthcare Data Quality to Drive Lower C-Section Delivery Rates

Large Healthcare System faced rising cesarean rates and regulatory pressure to measure and reduce low‑risk NTSV C‑sections but lacked reliable, timely data because of manual chart abstraction and inconsistent EMR documentation. To address this, they partnered with Health Catalyst and deployed a Late‑Binding™ Data Warehouse along with Key Process Analysis (KPA), Cohort Finder, and the Population Analytics Advanced Application — NTSV Cesarean Module, supported by Installation and Clinical Improvement Services.

Health Catalyst built an enterprise EDW, created a Women & Children’s Population Health Registry, and used KPA and the NTSV module to prioritize improvement opportunities, define baseline NTSV metrics, and surface EMR data capture and workflow gaps. The work automated reporting (cutting a months‑long manual abstraction process to timely EDW feeds), improved documentation capture (for example, better “marked as delivered” recording), enabled regulatory and RFP reporting, and advanced the system to level four of the Healthcare Analytics Adoption Model.
