Sun Ridge Contracting and HCSS Safety Celebrate Two Years Without a Lost-Time Incident

Sun Ridge Contracting is an Indigenous-owned civil and earthworks contractor based in Kamloops, BC with about 40 employees that has emphasized a family-focused safety culture since 1991. A 2018 slip-and-fall and a communication breakdown that produced a lost‑time incident revealed weaknesses in incident reporting and site-to-office communication, and the company needed a more proactive, consistent approach—especially as COVID‑19 introduced new safety challenges.

Sun Ridge implemented HCSS Safety (integrated with HeavyJob/HeavyBid), moved to paperless reporting, and trained crews to practice incident reporting, co‑create processes, and recognize exceptional safety behavior. Real‑time data, iPad dictation, HCSS Academy training and improved cross‑team communication freed time for coaching and proactive planning, helping Sun Ridge achieve two years without a lost‑time incident and position the program for further expansion.
