A HCSS Case Study
SPS New England, a bridge construction firm, faced the challenge of replacing two severely deteriorated 80-year-old bridges over the Merrimack River on I-495. The $96 million design-build project had to overcome environmental concerns for endangered fish species, work over 700 feet of water, and maintain traffic on a major highway, all while being executed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The vendor HCSS provided its HeavyBid software to help bid the complex job.
The HCSS solution integrated HeavyBid with HeavyJob and HCSS Safety to create a seamless project management system. This provided the team with real-time job cost information, projected spending, and cost projections, leading to best-practice budget management. The project was completed on time and on budget, with change orders accounting for only 4.24% of the project value. The work won multiple prestigious awards, including a Gold Recognition Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies.
