A Hazelcast Case Study
USAA, a major U.S. insurance and financial services provider, needed to modernize a WebSphere‑based web infrastructure that left each application with its own authentication and data management, causing inefficiency and inconsistent performance. To achieve higher speed, unified session management, scalable distributed caching, and reliable synchronization to a geographically distant third datacenter for compliance and resilience, USAA engaged Hazelcast and its Hazelcast Enterprise / In‑Memory Data Grid (IMDG) technology.
Hazelcast deployed an IMDG enterprise fabric to provide shared data and compute, single authentication, fast cached access via standard Java and JCache APIs, WAN Replication for cross‑datacenter synchronization, and automatic sharding/backup for fault tolerance. As a result, Hazelcast improved speed, consistency and stability for 1,200 applications across three datacenters, delivering a highly available, scalable platform that USAA calls the "heart and soul" of its e‑commerce and customer‑facing services.
