SigmaStream, a Houston-based provider of operational systems for oil and gas, faced the challenge of capturing and acting on massive volumes of high-frequency drilling sensor data so operators could prevent costly equipment failures. To turn this “data exhaust” into actionable streaming KPIs and real‑time control, SigmaStream integrated Hazelcast Jet into its platform to support continuous analytics on dozens of channels of time‑sensitive data.

Using Hazelcast Jet’s lightweight, in‑memory stream processing, SigmaStream built a closed‑loop analytics and control solution (integrated with its Hummingbird visualization) that windows, samples and applies proprietary algorithms to high‑frequency events for real‑time adjustments (for example, drill RPM). Hazelcast enabled streaming KPIs that cut drilling time by as much as 20% (from ~15 to ~12 days), potentially saving clients millions, and positioned SigmaStream to extend these capabilities — including AI/ML — across other industries.
