A Hazelcast Case Study
Global Bank, a large multinational bank serving 40 countries across Asia, the Middle East and Africa, needed to modernize a monolithic payments platform to enable rapid cross‑border expansion. The legacy architecture was inflexible, produced six‑month release cycles, and could not meet high throughput or regulatory/security requirements for new markets. To achieve agility, scalability and 99.999% availability, Global Bank selected Hazelcast and its lightweight, deploy‑anywhere in‑memory data grid and supporting features for a cloud‑native microservices strategy.
Hazelcast helped re‑architect the system into microservices with a shared Hazelcast cluster as the clustered event bus and low‑latency data store, combined with Kafka ingest, CI/CD automation, compute‑in‑grid processing, WAN Replication, and blue/green and rolling upgrades. The new solution delivered measurable results: the pilot scaled to 14,000 transactions/sec with latency under 20 ms (architected to scale to 100,000 tps), reduced development cycles from months to weeks, met 99.999% availability with in‑cluster backups and remote replication, and earned The Banker’s “Innovation in Digital Banking” award.
