A Hazelcast Case Study
Global Pizza Delivery Chain, a franchised pizza operator in 82 countries with over 12,600 restaurants, needed a reliable, high-performance storage layer to support innovations like a custom pizza creator, real-time order tracking and omnichannel ordering. Early deployments using Voldemort suffered from unreliable replication that corrupted order history and profile data; trials with SQL Server and Memcached failed to meet performance needs. While fixing a social media feed deduplication problem, the team evaluated and selected Hazelcast IMDG as a microservices-friendly alternative.
Hazelcast IMDG was embedded into the chain’s microservices and paired with SQL Server, becoming the backbone for caching, event deduplication, non-durable queuing and real-time driver tracking. Hazelcast now runs in 15 production microservices with dozens of data structures and millions of in‑memory objects, delivering the required performance and reliability, better resource utilization, and faster development cycles. Hazelcast Management Center improved operational visibility, and Hazelcast’s support reproduced and fixed a deadlock within 24–48 hours, reinforcing the platform as the chain’s go-to distributed in-memory solution.
