A Hazelcast Case Study
Global Personal Computers and Electronics Provider, a $18.3 billion annual online-sales retailer and one of the world’s most visited e‑commerce sites, faced extreme burst traffic during new product launches and peak shopping events and needed sub‑second latency, high availability, and elastic scaling. To meet these demands the customer turned to Hazelcast, using Hazelcast IMDG to provide an in‑memory data grid capable of high throughput and low latency.
Hazelcast first deployed hundreds of open‑source IMDG nodes with commercial support, then migrated to a dedicated cluster architecture and upgraded to Hazelcast IMDG Enterprise HD with the High‑Density Memory Store (HDMS) and JCache. The Hazelcast solution reduced cluster size from hundreds of nodes to six servers (one node per server, two copies), providing 6 × 28GB = 168GB of cache, predictable garbage‑collection behavior, elastic scaling for burst traffic, and lower licensed software, hardware, development, operations and talent costs while meeting the customer’s performance objectives.
