Hazelcast IMDG Accelerates Inventory Management, Speeds Purchases

US Top Ten Retailer faced real-time inventory challenges for its omni-channel e-commerce platform: stock levels held in slower, disk-based systems (Apache Cassandra) were often minutes out of sync, causing checkout failures and missed service-level guarantees. To solve this, the retailer engaged Hazelcast and deployed Hazelcast IMDG to provide a schema-less, in-memory layer for fast inventory visibility.

Hazelcast implemented Hazelcast IMDG as an operational datastore and cache in front of Cassandra, exposing RESTful services and omni-channel APIs for in-situ processing of large inventory documents. The change cut latency from 300ms to 2ms—well under the 40ms SLA—enabling accurate fulfillment commitments, fewer oversells, and a much faster customer checkout experience.
