Future Grid is a developer of the Future Grid Platform (FGP), a real-time operational intelligence platform for the “Internet of Energy” that analyzes massive IoT streams. Its utility customers collect roughly 3 billion data points per day (about 20 billion records after post-processing), and traditional relational databases could not execute algorithms or visualize time-series data fast enough—so Future Grid built its platform around Hazelcast IMDG.

Future Grid implemented Hazelcast IMDG integrated with Apache Cassandra to combine in‑memory processing and durable persistence, freeing data from disk‑bound bottlenecks and preserving scalability and availability. The Hazelcast-based solution delivered dramatic improvements—about 1000x faster than disk approaches, a pilot that was 1,200% faster and cut insight time from 2 hours to 10 minutes—and in production ran on $40,000 of hardware while avoiding an estimated $10M in infrastructure costs; three Australian utilities now use the platform.
