Innovative Processes and Technology Combine for Significant Savings at Bowie High School

James Bowie High School in Austin ISD, serving roughly 2,800 students, faced inefficient and time-consuming textbook issuance—parents and students could spend about three hours checking out materials—along with high inventory loss and delays getting books to students who enrolled after term start, disrupting instruction and preparation.

The school implemented Hayes Software Systems’ TIPWeb-IM with barcode scanning, a station-oriented check-out process, library access for real-time inventory adjustments, and other process changes (including student-built pallets). As a result checkout time fell from ~3 hours to about 30 minutes, inventory loss dropped from 22% to 7% (a 68% reduction) saving roughly $14,200, and abandoned checkouts fell to near zero.
