Whiterabbit.ai uses Terraform and Packer to Fight Cancer With Machine Learning

Whiterabbit.ai, a healthcare AI company, develops machine learning models to detect breast cancer and deliver real-time radiology support in clinics. As its hybrid-cloud and on-premises footprint grew, the small engineering team needed a consistent way to provision infrastructure across Amazon, clinic sites, and distributed environments while meeting strict healthcare data requirements. HashiCorp Terraform and Packer were central to that effort.

With HashiCorp, Whiterabbit.ai codified infrastructure in reusable Terraform modules and used Packer to build consistent VM images for cloud and clinic deployments. This let the team manage HIPAA-conscious storage, Swarm worker groups, VPN connectivity, and image-based deployments with a small staff, while speeding clinic bootstrapping to about 10–20 minutes. The result was a real-time radiology system that can reduce the screening-to-diagnosis wait from roughly 30 days to as little as one day, improving patient experience and helping radiologists prioritize suspicious cases faster.
