Using Terraform Enterprise and Chef to enable Continuous Deployment at Barclays

Barclays, one of the UK’s largest banks, needed to speed up software delivery without compromising the strict controls required by financial regulation. Manual infrastructure and deployment processes were slowing developers down, creating support burden, and making it hard to keep pace with modern digital competitors; HashiCorp’s Terraform Enterprise, alongside Chef, was used to help address this challenge.

HashiCorp helped Barclays build a hybrid cloud continuous deployment toolkit with automated test, promote, and deploy stages for application infrastructure. Using Terraform, Chef, Jenkins, and policy/compliance controls, Barclays can now create immutable environments, enforce consistent patterns, and reduce manual work before production. The result is faster, more repeatable deployments, improved governance, and the ability for developers to spin up and test environments in minutes rather than waiting weeks for infrastructure.
