Case Study: Criteo scales service discovery and infrastructure operations with HashiCorp Consul

A HashiCorp Case Study

Preview of the Criteo Case Study

The Optimizations Criteo Has Made To Get The Most Out Of Consul Running At High Scale

Criteo, a large ad platform with thousands of employees and more than 500 internal users, needed a way to manage service discovery and infrastructure operations across 12 datacenters and more than 40,000 Consul agents. As the company moved from machines to services and added thousands of microservices, its team needed a scalable way to help users find services, understand ownership, and investigate incidents without overwhelming operators.

HashiCorp helped Criteo build around Consul, including a custom Consul UI and service metadata-driven workflows, plus performance and scaling optimizations like stale reads, caching, and stronger DNS/ACL tuning. With HashiCorp Consul, Criteo reduced operator questions from dozens per day to about one per week, standardized service metadata across more than 4,000 services, and enabled automated provisioning, alerting, and load balancing across the platform.
