The HashiStack at eBay A Fully Containerized Platform Based on Infrastructure as Code

eBay Classifieds Group’s Site Operations team needed to build a new global motors platform quickly after the company’s strategy shifted and the technology center moved to Berlin. The challenge was to create a production-ready environment in a very short time frame while meeting requirements for resilience, stability, easy maintenance, and scalability. They turned to HashiCorp technology, using Terraform as the infrastructure-as-code foundation for the platform.

HashiCorp helped eBay implement a fully containerized, private-cloud platform built on OpenStack, with Terraform provisioning infrastructure and orchestration handled by PanteraS for stateless workloads and Nomad for persistent services and batch jobs. The result was a reproducible, scalable setup that could be replicated across production, non-production, and developer tenants, while reducing manual operations and simplifying deployments. The talk did not include hard metrics, but eBay reported that the approach significantly improved speed, maintainability, and operational consistency.
