Managing Target's Secrets Platform with HashiCorp Vault

Target turned to HashiCorp when its teams were adopting DevOps, agile, and cloud practices and needed a single, secure way to manage secrets across both new and legacy environments. The company’s challenge was to replace scattered secret storage in Git repos and CI/CD pipelines with a centralized platform that could meet strict security, availability, and compliance requirements. HashiCorp Vault was the product used.

HashiCorp helped Target build and operate an enterprise secrets platform with Vault, backed by automated onboarding, centralized authentication, audit logging, monitoring, and compliance-based approval workflows. Target also added synthetic testing, maintenance automation, and certificate management to keep the service highly available during upgrades and outages. The result was a scalable, stable secrets platform that could be consumed by engineering teams more easily and supported with less manual effort.
