How to Make Terraform Suitable for Non-Technical Users An Under Armour Story

Under Armour, specifically its Connected Fitness team, needed a way to let more than just infrastructure experts manage cloud infrastructure without losing control, consistency, or best practices. Working across multiple acquired products and cloud environments, the team wanted to simplify provisioning, reduce the learning curve, and make infrastructure self-service for developers and even non-technical users.

HashiCorp helped Under Armour build an internal platform called Estate on top of Terraform, adding a UI, REST API, templating, state management, locking, version enforcement, and guardrails for standardized workflows. The result was faster delivery of new services and easier provisioning of standardized architectures across the organization, with teams able to instantiate templates and deploy resources with far less friction.
