Distributed Configuration Management With Nomad at Samsung Research

Samsung Electronics’ Samsung Research team needed a faster, more consistent way to manage a complex datacenter platform that included secrets, networking, databases, and application deployments. Using HashiCorp tools—especially Nomad, along with Terraform, Vault, and Consul—they looked for a simpler alternative to traditional configuration management so they could bootstrap infrastructure quickly and reduce operational overhead.

HashiCorp enabled Samsung Research to use Nomad for much more than stateless services: the team orchestrated database clusters, schema upgrades, maintenance tasks, backups, TLS certificate management, and package installs through a single system. The result was a highly automated platform that could be rebuilt in about 15 minutes and recover a full day of data, while also lowering the barrier for developers to manage their own infrastructure and workloads.
