Dev & Ops Infrastucture Collaboration at Hotels.com With Terraform

Hotels.com, a brand of Expedia Group, needed a faster, more secure way to move from data-center infrastructure to the cloud while supporting a much larger developer base than its small operations team could handle alone. Using HashiCorp Terraform, the company set out to bring infrastructure-as-code, auditability, and consistency to its cloud migration and to make infrastructure management more collaborative across ops and development teams.

HashiCorp helped Hotels.com standardize infrastructure with reusable Terraform modules, GitHub-based version control, symlinked environment structures, and automated Jenkins deployments integrated with Vault for secrets management. The result was a scalable, collaborative model in which developers contributed to infrastructure safely, over 75 modules and 30+ contributors emerged, and Hotels.com reported more than 10 production data lake deployments with new environments provisioned in minutes rather than weeks or months.
