Case Study: Cruise achieves scalable, secure infrastructure automation with HashiCorp Terraform

A HashiCorp Case Study

Cruise uses HashiCorp Terraform to increase engineering agility and rapidly build autonomous vehicle technology

Cruise, the autonomous vehicle company, worked with HashiCorp to solve the challenge of scaling infrastructure as its engineering organization grew rapidly. As more than 800 software engineers and 40+ SREs needed access to infrastructure provisioning, the team outgrew its early Terraform OSS workflow, which relied on a single repository, limited access, and manual coordination that increased risk and slowed delivery.

HashiCorp’s Terraform Enterprise, along with workspaces, reusable modules, and Sentinel policy as code, gave Cruise a more scalable and governed infrastructure automation model. This enabled self-service provisioning for hundreds of developers, reduced the impact of errors, and improved productivity across the organization, with measurable scale including 150 supported applications, 150 self-service resources, and thousands of configuration updates each week.
