Case Study: Bowery Farming achieves highly available hybrid farm services with HashiCorp Nomad and Consul

A HashiCorp Case Study

Preview of the Bowery Farming Case Study

Connecting Farms and Growing Plants at Bowery Farming with Nomad and Consul

Bowery Farming, an indoor vertical farming company, needed a way to run highly available services across both AWS and its on-premises farm facilities without relying on cloud-specific tooling. With a small SRE team and a globally distributed, hybrid environment, Bowery needed consistent application scheduling, service discovery, DNS, and networking across farms and cloud infrastructure.

Using HashiCorp Nomad and Consul, along with Terraform, Packer, and Ansible, Bowery built a hybrid platform that runs services in AWS and on each farm while keeping everything on a private network. HashiCorp’s tools enabled consistent deployment and service discovery through Consul DNS, supporting Bowery’s worldwide network of farms, improving operational reliability, and helping power a scalable system now serving more than 650 stores.
