Building NAB Engineering Foundations with Terraform Enterprise

National Australia Bank (NAB), a 160-year-old financial institution serving nine million customers with more than 2,100 applications and 11,000 servers, needed a better way to standardize cloud delivery across hundreds of teams. As NAB expanded its cloud-first strategy across AWS and Azure, it faced challenges around reuse, productivity, and delivering features quickly while meeting strict security and compliance requirements.

To address this, NAB implemented HashiCorp Terraform Enterprise as the foundation for its engineering platform, along with standard infrastructure modules, Sentinel policy as code, workspaces, GitHub integration, and an innersource model for shared contributions. With HashiCorp, NAB shifted 300 teams onto the platform in nine months, updated 40 Azure modules in days, and grew bootcamp training to 1,100 participants, helping engineers deliver code faster while maintaining compliance and auditability.
