Accelerating Digital Transformation at Northwestern Mutual with Terraform and GitLab

Northwestern Mutual partnered with HashiCorp to support its digital transformation as it moved away from on-prem datacenters and long provisioning delays. The company needed a faster, more reliable way to provision infrastructure so engineers could focus on solving problems instead of waiting weeks for new environments.

Using HashiCorp Terraform with GitLab CI, Northwestern Mutual adopted an “everything as code” approach to create infrastructure and environments on demand. The result was a dramatic improvement in speed and consistency: environments can now be created in under an hour, applications move faster from idea to production, and teams can reliably reproduce environments while using Sentinel policy checks and cost estimation to automate compliance in the workflow.
