Creating the Archive for Aurora Health Care’s Migration from Cerner to Epic

Aurora Health Care, a large Midwest integrated not-for-profit health system, faced a tight timeline to decommission its Cerner AIX/Oracle 8 platform while migrating to Epic and needed to retain 100% of patient care and audit data with minimal training impact and preserved access controls. To meet those requirements, Aurora engaged Harmony Healthcare IT to create an enterprise archive (leveraging Harmony’s HealthData Archiver® and retention services) that would securely preserve historical records and support release-of-information and reporting needs.

Harmony Healthcare IT analyzed retention policies, performed data extraction, migration and validation, and delivered a complete Cerner archive on time and on budget within 12 months. The archive retained 33.5 million patient accounts, 75 TB of images, 32 TB of primary Cerner data, 89 million encounters and 3.1 billion clinical results, preserved user roles and reports, produced a return on investment in under 12 months, and reduced active named users to about 2,000 (650 concurrent) while keeping external system dependencies unchanged.
