Archived Implant Data Helps to Identify a Dead Body

Cone Health, an integrated not-for-profit health network serving six North Carolina counties with more than 100 locations, needed to manage and make searchable decades of legacy EHR data during its transition to Epic. To preserve historical clinical and implant records and enable lifecycle data management, Cone Health engaged Harmony Healthcare IT to extract and archive its legacy SCM EHR data using Harmony’s HealthData Archiver solution.

Harmony Healthcare IT extracted, migrated, validated and retained roughly four terabytes of data from more than a dozen ambulatory and acute systems into HealthData Archiver, enabling rapid eDiscovery—within hours Cone Health identified a patient from a 2009 hip-implant fastener serial number and helped resolve the case. The archived data also improved HIM and legal retrieval, clinician access to historical treatments, and implant recall management, delivering measurable improvements in response time and searchable access to legacy records.
