Four modules help Škoda Auto respond more quickly to production problems

Škoda Auto, a major global car manufacturer, sought to improve its production process by responding to problems more quickly. The challenge was to replace the operators' inefficient method of calling for help using mobile phones or hand signals with a more reliable and immediate system. They partnered with HARDWARIO to develop a device that could alert supervisors and management instantly when an issue arose on the production line.

HARDWARIO created a solution using their BLOX IoT Kit, developing the Škoda Andon device. It consisted of a Core Module, Battery Module, LoRa Module, and three external buttons, all connected to a private, independent LoRa network. This system allowed operators to press a button to signal a warning or defect, which was then displayed in real-time on overhead boards, significantly speeding up response times. The implementation made Škoda's production lines safer and better organized, providing management with valuable long-term data to improve processes and assess quality.
