Micro-Server for Cloud Platform Provider

Happiest Minds developed a micro-server for a cloud platform provider facing a need for a low-power, high-performance, compact server that could scale to dense deployments. The customer required a SerDes-based active backplane in a 2U chassis supporting up to 50 processor modules while meeting cloud and NFV platform requirements.

The solution used low-power octa-core Intel Atom modules (2.4 GHz) with 2x DDR3‑L SODIMM, onboard SSD, headless design and PCIe Gen3 connectivity into a 2.5G SerDes backplane with SFP+/10G uplinks. Built on x86 with NVMe/AHCI, UEFI and network-boot support for Windows and Linux (designed using OrCAD/Allegro), the platform enables NFV deployments, supports remote firmware upgrades to minimize downtime, and allows processor modules to be used interchangeably as management cards.
