Traffic Management System in Port of Tallinn

Port of Tallinn, operator of the busy Old City Harbour passenger terminals in Estonia, needed a faster and more efficient way to manage vehicle check-in, pre-check-in, and line flow for multiple ferry operators. The challenge was to reduce waiting times, improve traffic organization, and handle large volumes of cars and trucks more smoothly across the A-, B- and D-terminals.

Hansab implemented the Smart Port traffic management system, a solution based on vehicle license plate identification, automated weighing and measurement, and barrier-controlled guidance with LED displays. The system automatically checks bookings and directs vehicles into the correct loading order, helping speed up check-in and vessel loading, reduce staffing needs at kiosks and guide points, improve dock space usage, and cut vehicle idling and environmental impact. Hansab also planned a similar rollout for the D-terminal.
