A Hansab Case Study
Klaipėda county public I. Simonaitytė library needed a way to make its services more accessible beyond the library building and reduce social and information exclusion. It partnered with Hansab to create a new automated book lending service that could serve readers at the shopping and entertainment center Akropolis, using the library’s reader card and integrating with the LIBIS system.
Hansab implemented the first book lending machine in the Baltic States, built around RFID UHF technology for fast book identification and automated issuing. The solution lets users scan their reader’s card, select a book, and receive a printed receipt, with returns due within 30 days; the project expanded access to library services for people of all ages and backgrounds and provided a unique, innovative public service.
