Case Study: Tallinn University achieves contactless book lending with Hansab’s smart locker solution

Tallinn University Academic Library needed a safer, contactless way for students and patrons to borrow books when Estonia declared an Emergency Situation in April 2020. To address this challenge, the library worked with Hansab and chose the AL TLU Smart Locker as a self-service pickup option for requested books.

Hansab implemented the “Raamatutark (Bookwise)” book lending locker, allowing users to select the locker as a pickup point in the ESTER e-catalogue, receive an email notification, and collect books by scanning a library card or entering an ID card. The solution streamlined unattended book lending and automatically emailed due dates when the locker was opened, helping Tallinn University maintain library services during restrictions.
