A Hannon Hill Case Study
The University of Saskatchewan, a large decentralized institution with nearly 20,000 students and dozens of colleges and affiliated units, struggled with inconsistent information across more than 600 websites, multiple content-management systems, and many IT shops. The challenge was to centralize web management for consistency and efficiency while preserving local ownership and flexibility for individual colleges and departments.
A cross-campus selection committee chose Cascade CMS after collaborative requirements gathering and issued an opt-in institutional WCMS with a three-pronged rollout: training and access for local IT teams, free pre-packaged sites for groups without IT, and a fee-for-service development option. Within a year the service had 70 live sites (270 users) and rapid adoption across units; benefits included improved content quality and consistency, reduced duplication, a stronger visual identity, and 90% of surveyed users saying they would recommend the system.
