Sarah Lawrence College, a small liberal arts institution known for its low student/faculty ratio and seminar-driven pedagogy, relied on a small Office of Communications Web Team to manage a public site of roughly 2,500 pages and 15,000 assets. After a problematic deployment of Serena Collage (client-side Java dependence, reliability issues and discontinued support), the team needed a more stable, user-friendly CMS and a vendor committed to long-term service.

The college selected Hannon Hill’s Cascade CMS, worked with Hannon Hill Professional Services for training and a full migration, and replicated site functionality within months. The move eliminated weeks of manual copy‑and‑paste, enabled a site redesign, and let the team leverage features like configurable indexing, drag-and-drop asset management, XSLT/XML support and a multi-site model. As a result, over 2,300 pages are now indexed by search engines, contributor onboarding is much simpler, and the college plans to expand Cascade use across departments and for mobile and social media output.
