SNHU’s strategies for remote student career engagement

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) needed a better way to support remote students, many of whom were balancing work, family, and school while also facing added uncertainty during the pandemic. Its career services team had to reach learners with relevant support at the right time, even as attention was limited and in-person engagement was not possible.

SNHU used Handshake and a proactive outreach model to collect employment data early, prioritize students who were unemployed and actively seeking help, and coordinate support across campus partners. The team also focused on simple, intentional engagement such as voice messages and targeted follow-up. With 140,000 plus online learners, Handshake helped SNHU scale career services and expand its reach across advisors, faculty, financial services, and alumni engagement.
