Haverford’s strategies for boosting student engagement

Haverford College wanted to keep student engagement high at a small liberal arts campus and make sure students were adopting Handshake and using the career center. To do that, the college focused on targeted communication and campus-wide participation rather than broad outreach.

Using Handshake Targeted Emails and student labels built from major, industry interest, and job function, Haverford sent highly specific messages that regularly achieved open rates of 70% or higher, with the most targeted emails reaching over 90%. The college also expanded cross-campus promotion and alumni programming, with over 70% of events co-sponsored or cross-promoted by academic departments and student groups; its Summer Skills Accelerator drew over 30 alumni seminars scheduled, over 800 registrations, and waitlists of up to 60 students.
