Great Oaks Charter Schools Goes Virtual to Put Their Students First with Handshake

Great Oaks Charter Schools, a network of K-12 charter schools in the Mid-Atlantic, needed a way to connect with students during the pandemic and build a year-round talent pipeline beyond its local region. The school network wanted to reach students with strong alignment to its mission of equity in education, regardless of where they studied or who they knew.

Using Handshake and Handshake Premium features including Segments and Event Manager, Great Oaks expanded outreach to students nationwide, hosted weekly virtual info sessions and tutorials, and filtered candidates by experience, extracurriculars, and academic organizations. Within weeks, the organization created and hosted over 50 virtual events, increased candidate engagement on Handshake by 5x year over year, saw a 2.5x increase in students from partner schools submitting applications year over year, and now sources two-thirds of its hires from Handshake.
