Building employer relationships with virtual fairs

Champlain College used Handshake to run its fall 2020 career fair virtually for the first time and wanted to preserve strong employer relationships in the new format. The Career Collaborative team needed a way to support employers remotely while still delivering a high-touch experience for students, alumni, and recruiters.

Champlain College used personalized outreach, session co-facilitation, peer coach support, and a post-fair reception to guide employers through the fair on Handshake. The results were strong: 96% of Champlain students who signed up attended, compared with 81% on the network overall, and the fair became the second-most attended ever. About 40% of recruiters joined the 30-minute post-fair reception, and feedback from the event helped Champlain extend its spring fair from three to five hours.
