Valent launches 3 R&D projects in 60 days with Halo

Valent BioSciences and Valent USA, subsidiaries of Sumitomo Chemical, sought to augment their internal R&D expertise by establishing an external partnering program to source new innovations. Their challenge was to quickly build this capability without making a significant investment in internal infrastructure. They turned to the vendor Halo and its external innovation platform to jumpstart this practice.

Using Halo's platform, Valent launched Requests for Proposals and received 204 proposals from nearly 100 universities and 40 startups in just two months. This allowed them to identify and fully fund three new R&D projects with leading academic institutions. The measurable impact included accessing an estimated $2 billion market and establishing a valuable network of researchers across 28 countries. Halo provided Valent with a cost-effective solution that delivered global R&D partnerships typically reserved for much larger corporations.
