Edlong Flavor Solutions, a leader in dairy and plant-based flavor solutions, sought new approaches to protect volatile flavors from breaking down under heat, a challenge their previous partnerships had not successfully solved. They turned to the vendor Halo and its NSF-supported Emerge project to broadly connect with university researchers and explore innovative methods beyond traditional encapsulation technologies.

Using Halo's innovation partnership platform, Edlong efficiently received and reviewed proposals from multiple under-the-radar universities, many of which they would not have found independently. Halo acted as a strategic partner, providing technical support throughout the process. As a result, Edlong identified three promising university partners for research collaborations aligned with their 2027 innovation pipeline, significantly expanding their network and unlocking new avenues for flavor innovation.
