A HALO Recognition Case Study

Driving employee engagement through points-based initiatives

Michael C. Fina Co. partnered with HALO Recognition to help a newly merged Texas healthcare system facing major cultural and operational challenges. After the merger, staff morale dropped, turnover rose, top physicians were harder to attract, and HCAHPS scores fell below acceptable levels, threatening the hospital’s reputation and eligibility for support.

HALO Recognition implemented a points-based employee recognition and incentive program that rewarded desired behaviors such as extra shifts, blood drives, customer service, training, community service, and town hall participation. Employees could redeem points for a wide range of merchandise, and the program was supported by a comprehensive communications plan. Within two years, retention improved, engagement increased, blood drive and charitable participation grew, the hospital earned “Most Improved Healthcare System,” and patient satisfaction scores rose.
