A Haivision Case Study
The University of Toledo opened its Interprofessional Immersive Simulation Center to give healthcare students a safe, HIPAA‑compliant environment to practice patient care, conduct research, and use 3D/VR visualization for up‑close viewing of procedures. To meet this need the university, with integrator AVI‑SPL, deployed Haivision’s streaming and media management solutions — including Haivision Media Platform, Makito X encoders, Haivision Furnace and Haivision Set‑Top Box — to provide secure, low‑latency video across the facility.
Haivision’s implementation streams and records more than 65 live HD sources concurrently, enabling synchronized multi‑source recording with metadata, secure sharing, and VOD playback to workstations, conference rooms and auditoriums. The Haivision Media Platform and Makito X encoders delivered “pristine” images (Makito X provides twice the HD quality at the same bandwidth), ensured all live training sessions are captured for review, let students watch live from anywhere in the center, and helped the university better prepare graduates for safe clinical care.
