Streaming Secure Live OR Video To Teaching Conferences

The American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) needed to broadcast a live hysterectomy demonstrating the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System from Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso to the 2016 Global Hysterectomy Summit in San Diego. Facing packet loss and jitter with competing encoders and strict quality and security (HIPAA) requirements, AAGL engaged Haivision to evaluate and deploy Makito X H.264 encoders/decoders using SRT transport.

Haivision implemented Makito X encoders/decoders with SRT end-to-end encryption over the public internet, delivering a flawless live surgical feed to 200 physicians while avoiding the expense of managed networks. The solution provided reliable, high-quality, HIPAA-respecting streaming, enabled plans for interactive talkback Q&A at future conferences, and produced measurable cost savings and a successful live learning experience.
