Case Study: Riot Games achieves low-latency remote production for League of Legends with Haivision

A Haivision Case Study

Riot Games streams 24 cameras in under 1 Gbps with Haivision

Riot Games, the developer of the world's most popular multiplayer online game League of Legends, faced the challenge of scaling up its international live event broadcasts. For the 2018 Mid-Season Invitational in Paris, they needed to stream 34 high-quality, low-latency video feeds to their Los Angeles broadcast center over their own IP network. Their goal was to reduce bandwidth usage from 10 Gbps to 1 Gbps while keeping all audio and video perfectly synchronized. They partnered with Haivision to find a solution.

Haivision provided a solution using their Makito X video encoders and decoders with Stream Sync technology. This allowed Riot Games to successfully implement a remote production workflow, streaming all feeds from Paris to Los Angeles with under 500ms of latency and perfect synchronization. The result was a highly efficient broadcast that used under 1 Gbps of bandwidth, significantly reduced operational costs, and was viewed by over 60 million fans worldwide.
