Microsoft Adds More Live Streams with Less Infrastructure to Inspire

Microsoft needed a fast, reliable way to deliver live content across multiple venues, overflow rooms, adjacent hotels and back to Redmond for cloud delivery during its Inspire 2018 conference. To avoid expensive, labor-intensive dedicated fiber installs and enable quick operator onboarding, Microsoft turned to Haivision — deploying the Haivision Media Platform, Makito X encoders/decoders and Haivision’s SRT protocol to simplify setup and distribution.

Haivision’s solution streamed and recorded 30 channels simultaneously, producing over 1,400 hours of content and routing primary and backup feeds (including satellite-to-Redmond and SRT to Azure Media Services) for global delivery. The result: training took “all of two minutes,” fewer on-site technicians, higher-quality low-latency feeds, and avoidance of costly fiber deployments (up to $250,000 per event), enabling Microsoft to scale and reuse the workflow for future events.
