Case Study: MediLive achieves flexible, secure, low-latency real-time surgical streaming with Haivision’s Makito X

A Haivision Case Study

Preview of the MediLive Case Study

MediLive helps surgeons learn the newest techniques in patient care with live-transmissions of surgeries to medical conferences worldwide

MediLive, a Germany‑based specialist in live medical transmissions, needed a more flexible, mobile way to stream surgeries to conferences worldwide after relying on one‑directional satellite links. Satellite required weeks‑ahead bookings, prevented real‑time two‑way communication, and risked missing unpredictable surgical end‑times. MediLive selected Haivision’s Makito X solution to address these constraints.

Haivision deployed Makito X encoders and decoders with SRT for firewall‑friendly, secure point‑to‑point streaming (HEVC available for low‑bandwidth situations) and the TalkBack feature for low‑latency two‑way communication. The result: reliable full‑HD streams to conferences of up to 10,000 physicians, the ability to mix and transmit as many as 25 simultaneous sources, elimination of satellite scheduling limits, and direct surgeon‑to‑audience interaction — all delivered by Haivision.
