How TV2GO is Pioneering Remote Video Contribution with SRT

TV2GO, a live video transmission provider, was grappling with the high cost, complexity, and latency of traditional satellite contribution for remote broadcasts. To give broadcasters satellite reach where internet is poor while lowering cost and operational burden, TV2GO adopted Haivision technology—specifically Haivision’s Makito series encoders/decoders—and the open-source SRT streaming protocol to explore IP-based transport options.

Using Haivision’s Makito encoders and SRT, TV2GO implemented a hybrid workflow that uplinks IP capacity via satellite (effectively a very long Ethernet cable) to deliver low-latency, bi-directional streams and reduce satellite hops for international events (e.g., mountaintop ski races). The Haivision-enabled solution streamlined setup, cut costs, improved reliability and latency compared with traditional satellite, and delivered strong quality—TV2GO reported client savings and even “not a single pixel drop” at a major live event.
