How alter ego Post Production is Using Low Latency, Video Streaming for High Quality Video Review

Alter Ego, a high-end post-production studio specializing in color grading, VFX and motion graphics, faced the challenge of conducting critical, color-accurate client reviews remotely when travel and in-person sessions became impractical. After testing multiple options, they selected Haivision’s Makito X4 encoder and the SRT streaming protocol to meet the twin requirements of pristine image quality and low latency.

Haivision delivered a workflow using the Makito X4 and SRT to stream full 1080p video at 10 Mbps (8-bit 4:2:0) to a browser-based player, increasing Alter Ego’s outgoing streams from two to ten and enabling comfortable real-time reviews with end-to-end latency of about 3–4 seconds (vs. ~15+ seconds with RTMP). The solution preserved color accuracy and sharpness, extended Alter Ego’s reach to clients worldwide, and came with responsive Haivision support that helped make remote review a reliable long-term part of their workflow.
