A Haivision Case Study
Hearst Corporation, one of America’s largest diversified mass media companies (39 TV stations, 300+ magazines) with 10 TV stations in New York and over 1,100 employees at Hearst Tower, needed a way to stream local and national HD broadcasts to every employee desktop and public-area screen and to record live TV appearances for promo use — all with minimal IT involvement. To meet this challenge, Hearst engaged Haivision and its IP video products, notably the Furnace appliance and InStream player (along with Makito encoders and Stingray STBs).
Haivision deployed a Furnace IP video system ingesting 35 cable channels via 35 Makito HD H.264 encoders to provide Live, Record and VOD, streaming to 1,100 desktops via the InStream player and to 40 public displays via Stingray set-top boxes. As a result, Hearst employees and visiting reporters can access multiple HD channels simultaneously with no software installs, broadcasts are recorded for promo production, and Haivision’s solution now delivers 35 channels to 1,100 desktops and 40 displays while centralizing HD distribution and reducing IT overhead.
