Case Study: CTV achieves low-latency, full-HD Royal Wedding coverage with Haivision Makito encoders

A Haivision Case Study

Preview of the CTV Case Study

Haivision’s Low Latency System Gives CTV a Competitive Edge for Coverage of London’s Royal Wedding

CTV, Canada’s largest private broadcaster, needed to stand out among multiple networks covering the April 29, 2011 Royal Wedding in London while operating a temporary Westminster studio and numerous live camera positions with no exclusivity on footage. To make real‑time editorial decisions and deliver crisp HD coverage back to Canadian viewers, CTV chose Haivision’s Makito encoders/decoders for ultra‑low latency IP video transport.

Haivision deployed 20 Makito units to build a reliable IP link between London and CTV’s Toronto broadcast center, provisioning 14 HD feeds from Toronto to London and sending 6 real‑time HD feeds from London to Toronto for monitoring. The Haivision solution delivered full HD 1080p60 with an end‑to‑end latency of just 70 milliseconds, giving CTV a measurable competitive edge and enabling cleaner, faster production decisions for a superior Royal Wedding broadcast.
